Law Prom - Future Attorneys Vomiting and "Poopooing" on the Floor

This past weekend was BU Law hosted its annual "Law Prom". You see, every year law schools across the U.S. have formal/semi-formal parties where all the law students get dressed up and go to a nice hotel banquet/ballroom to dance, drink, etc. Some law schools call this event "Barristers' Ball". BU Law calls it "Law Prom". Sounds fun, huh? A nice evening event with sort of a "prom" theme. It's even cute. Except "prom" isn't actually the theme - its actually just supposed to be a prom. In fact, every year the Student Government chooses an an additional theme for the "law prom". Last year the theme was Kentucky Derby, and there were a lot of seersucker suits, pastels, big hats, etc.

I make fun, but the event is actually really nice and a lot of fun. The Student Government puts a lot of time into planning and does a really great job putting on the event. My ex-girlfriend even came up from Panama last year and attended the Kentucky Derby themed Law Prom. She wore a big Kentucky Derby-style hat, and everyone confirmed to me that she was a really hot little latina. It is true; she was hot and little... exquisite eyes, tanned skin with a perfect complexion... a lean, toned body... little ears you could just nibble at... and her hair smells fantastic. Anyway, I'm getting off topic.

This year, the theme was "Casino Royale". I was not able to attend, because a round trip flight from Argentina would have been a too expensive just to attend a Law Prom. Maybe if the economy was better... Anyway, I was disappointed that I couldn't go to Casino Royale Law Prom, because I really like the James Bond character and would have had a great time with the theme. Instead, I just spent the weekend pretending I was James Bond down on a mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I did the same thing when I was 10 years old and the movie Hook came out. I spent about 6 months jumping from one piece of furniture to another. That Peter Pan is such a good role model... but, again, I am getting off topic.

Apparently, at this year's Law Prom the bars shut down at 11:00 p.m. I have heard that it is because a girl vomited. Big deal, right? Several hunder 20-somethings get together to drink and party, and someone throws up. HUUUUGE surprise! But, that's what happens when you have a bunch of future lawyers planning an event - law school teaches you to always think about liability issues.

Of course, this could all just be a rumor. I actually heard all of this on G-chat from a friend in Boston who didn't even go to Law Prom. Like most rumors that I hear, though, I will assume that it is 100% accurate without investigating its validity.

There are often rumors that come from BU Law events. Last year, apparently a "new law school couple" had sex at the Law Prom. That's sweet - they must be in love. There is also a rumor that a couple years ago the hotel where Law Prom was held complained that someone had defecated on the floor in the women's restroom. That's right, some 20-something-year-old girl and future licensed attorney from a top-2o law school program pooped on the floor. Or so rumor has it...

The idea that the bars at Law Prom might have stopped serving alcohol simply because one girl vomited does, in fact, seem plausible. During my first year of law school, someone also threw up at the SGA's annual "Harbor Cruise" event. That is an event where hundreds of BU Law students get on a big boat together and cruise around Boston Harbor for a few hours. Except for the fact that it is on a boat and people aren't dressed in theme, the event is a lot like Law Prom. Anyway, the guy threw up. Maybe he had drank too much... Or maybe he was sea-sick (after all, we were on a boat). Anyway, the rumor was that the guy who threw up was basically quarantined until the boat arrived back at port. An ambulance had been called and was there waiting for the young future-lawyer to be escorted off the boat. The whole thing seemed like a pretty disproportionate response, but I guess that's just law school.

UPDATE: I have just been told by a reliable source that there were actually "several" people who threw up at Law Prom, and that they vomited "in interesting places". I am also told that numerous people had sex at Law Prom this year. To be fair, there was both vomiting and sex in the Casino Royale movie... Also
"A set of keys was found at Law Prom. If they belong to you or your guest, please write to Ryan at rchap@bu.edu to retrieve them. Thanks! The SGA"

  1. The bar definitely closed at 11 (if not earlier). I don't know if a girl vomited, but there was definitely vomit in the men's room sink, and I heard that two guys got in a scuffle. When they closed the bar, everyone went downstairs to the lobby bar, so now they had dozens of drunk law students trying to get alcohol from 2 bartenders at an even classier bar. They had to shut that down too. The SGA did a good job of setting it up. The hotel, did not deliver.
